Use of AI
AI tools assist our desk with discovery, classification, drafting of paraphrased summaries, metadata generation and illustrative imagery. AI is not a source of facts. Every factual statement in an AI-assisted article must trace to the attributed source.
Human oversight
Administrators can require human approval before any article is published. Automated publication, where enabled, applies only to stories that pass every verification stage. Editors can inspect a provenance record for each article showing the source, timestamps, model identifier and verification status.
Prohibited outputs
AI may not invent quotations, statistics, freight rates, people, companies, vessels or events; may not copy source text; and may not add facts that cannot be verified against the source. Articles are never generated merely to meet a volume target.
Disclosure
Articles produced with AI assistance carry a disclosure in the source and provenance panel. AI-generated images are labelled as illustrative.
