Container spot rates stabilise on Asia–North Europe after carriers trim capacity
Blank sailings and slower steaming appear to have arrested the post-peak decline, though contract negotiations remain the key test.

Spot container freight rates on the Asia to North Europe trade steadied this week after several weeks of declines, with carriers' capacity management measures beginning to influence the market, according to index publishers and forwarder commentary.
Blank sailings announced for the coming weeks and a general slowing of service speeds have reduced effective capacity on the trade. Forwarders said carriers were less willing to discount below recently announced levels for mid-September sailings.
The stabilisation comes as shippers and carriers prepare for the annual contract season. Analysts noted that the relationship between spot and contract pricing remains the key variable for carrier profitability in the coming year.
Demand indicators have been mixed. European import volumes have held up better than some forecasts, while inventory levels at retailers remain a source of caution for fourth-quarter bookings.
