Asian owner secures LNG carrier newbuilding slots for 2029 delivery
The two 174,000 cbm vessels are earmarked for long-term charter to a gas exporter, according to the owner.
An Asian shipowner has secured berth slots for two 174,000 cubic metre LNG carriers with delivery in 2029, the company said, with the vessels intended for long-term employment with an LNG exporter.
The order specifies membrane containment and dual-fuel propulsion with reliquefaction, in line with current standard specifications for large LNG carriers.
LNG carrier orderbooks remain full at the leading yards, and owners have increasingly sought to secure slots ahead of confirmed charter awards to remain competitive in tenders.
The owner said financing has been arranged with a syndicate of Asian lenders and export credit support.
The vessels are expected to serve new liquefaction capacity due online towards the end of the decade.
