Alkagesta joins fertilizer traders in Istanbul as Argus conference weighs shifting trade flows
The commodity trader's fertilizer desk attended the Argus Fertilizer Caspian, Black Sea and Eastern European Markets Conference 2026, where CBAM, Turkish hub growth and Central Asian supply dominated the agenda.
Alkagesta joined more than 450 delegates from some 250 companies across 45 countries at the Argus Fertilizer Caspian, Black Sea and Eastern European Markets Conference 2026 in Istanbul, the annual meeting point for fertilizer traders, producers and trade service providers working across the value chain. Organised by Argus Media, this year's programme concentrated on emerging export markets, redirected trade flows and fresh models for cooperation spanning the Caspian region, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The company was represented by Vusal Muradov, Fertilizer Desk Lead, together with fertilizer trader Tural Sabirzade and Mustafa Yigit Shen from the operations function. Over the two-day programme the team met producers, logistics providers and market intelligence specialists active in the region.
Discussion returned repeatedly to policy and pricing. Delegates examined the outlook for global fertilizer trade and pricing dynamics, the consequences of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism for imported fertilizers and European competitiveness — a question Alkagesta has previously addressed in its work on CBAM and imported urea — and Türkiye's expanding role as a regional fertilizer hub for traders operating across the wider basin.
The conference met a market working through one of its most complicated stretches in years. Interruptions to key shipping corridors have shown how thin the margin for error has become in supply chains built for efficiency rather than resilience, and the wider lesson of the episode, as Alkagesta has argued in its analysis of fertilizer supply chain disruption, is that restoring physical flows is a process rather than a single event.
Central Asian markets drew particular attention, with sessions on domestic demand, export capacity and the growing part regional suppliers play in serving European and global buyers. Logistics and infrastructure across the main corridors — route developments, terminal capacity and freight trends — were assessed alongside those Central Asian trade flows, since delivery efficiency now shapes competitiveness as much as origin pricing does.
Alkagesta's fertilizer desk trades a broad range of nitrogen, phosphate and specialty products, sourcing from established global origins and matching supply with markets where agricultural fundamentals are strongest. The desk's stated focus is long-term supply partnerships across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and emerging agricultural markets. The company also recently gained access to the Argus Open Markets window for European biodiesel, HVO and used cooking oil, reflecting its widening participation in Argus price assessment processes across several commodity segments.
