Greek owner orders four methanol-ready Kamsarmax bulkers in latest fleet renewal move

A Greek dry bulk owner has placed an order for four Kamsarmax bulk carriers with a Chinese shipyard, with the vessels specified as methanol-ready, according to shipbroker reports and a company statement. Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2028.
The order continues a pattern of owners choosing fuel-flexible designs for mid-sized bulkers, preserving the option to switch to lower-carbon fuels as bunkering infrastructure develops. The owner did not disclose the contract price.
Kamsarmax tonnage has attracted steady newbuilding interest given its versatility across grain, coal and minor bulk trades, and the relatively favourable age profile of the existing fleet compared with the Capesize segment.
Brokers noted that berth availability at leading yards for 2028 delivery has tightened, with slots for dry bulk tonnage increasingly competing with container and gas carrier orders.
The move is consistent with a broader fleet renewal strategy at the company, which has also been active in the secondhand market this year.
