Alkagesta outlines strategic growth and diversification for 2026
Alkagesta has detailed its 2025 strategic milestones, including the launch of a biofuels desk, entry into the metals market, and expanded logistics capabilities in West Africa and Singapore.

Alkagesta convened its 2025 Group Town Hall in Istanbul on 13 December, as reported by Bunker Market. The event brought together 167 staff members to review the firm’s operational progress and strategic direction. Leadership highlighted that the company’s performance throughout 2025 was defined by disciplined governance and cross-functional collaboration, which allowed the Malta-headquartered trading house to navigate volatile energy markets and complex regulatory requirements. The forum served to align the global team on long-term objectives as the enterprise continues to scale its operations across various commodities, geographies, and value chains.
A primary focus of the meeting was the company’s ongoing transition from a traditional petroleum trading platform toward a diversified, multi-commodity enterprise. In response to the maritime sector’s decarbonisation trajectory, Alkagesta officially launched a dedicated Biofuels Desk during the year. This initiative is intended to strengthen the firm’s participation in renewable and transitional marine fuel supply chains, catering to growing demand from industrial and shipping clients for compliant, lower-carbon energy alternatives. The move is part of a broader strategy to provide scalable solutions in an evolving global energy environment.
The firm also expanded its light ends trading capabilities by establishing a Naphtha Book, successfully completing its inaugural LR shipment from the Mediterranean to the Far East. This development improves the company’s ability to manage inter-regional arbitrage flows. Furthermore, Alkagesta entered the metals sector by incorporating steel trading into its existing portfolio. This diversification step reduces reliance on petroleum and fertiliser products, reflecting a strategic ambition to participate in complementary commodity markets. These additions are supported by the company’s established risk management, compliance, and governance frameworks across its global network.
Geographic expansion remained a key theme, marked by the export of the company’s first 130,000-metric-ton fuel oil cargo from Nigeria, which establishes West Africa as a new strategic sourcing hub. Additionally, the group increased its market share as a fertiliser exporter in Egypt, reinforcing its presence in North African logistics. In Asia, the firm bolstered its Singapore operations through investments in liquid storage capacity and an enhanced marine distribution business. These efforts are designed to improve service capabilities for bunker and industrial customers while strengthening connectivity across key clean-product corridors.
Looking ahead to 2026, leadership emphasised that the company’s future success will depend on the continued strength of its systems, partnerships, and personnel. Alkagesta, which was established in 2018, currently operates 17 offices worldwide and facilitates more than 7 million metric tons of commodity flows annually. By maintaining a focus on operational excellence and ethical standards, the group aims to sustain its momentum in the global energy and commodity sectors. The town hall concluded with a commitment to long-term value creation and resilience as the firm enters its next growth phase.
