CF Industries, Trafigura, and TFG Marine have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to support the adoption of low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel. According to Trafigura, this partnership aims to advance the shipping industry’s emissions-reduction efforts by establishing a framework for collaboration. The agreement builds upon existing cooperation between CF Industries and Trafigura regarding the shipment of low-carbon ammonia. The parties intend to focus their initial efforts on the U.S. Gulf Coast and Northwest Europe, targeting key initiatives such as market development, stakeholder engagement, and the planning of bunkering logistics to facilitate the transition to cleaner maritime fuels.

CF Industries will utilise its production and export capabilities at its complex in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, to supply the fuel. Trafigura will provide its expertise in commodity logistics and market development to the partnership. TFG Marine, a joint venture between Trafigura, Frontline, and Golden Ocean Group, will leverage its global fuel supply network to manage last-mile delivery solutions. Furthermore, the company will coordinate ammonia bunkering demand and facilitate the transportation of the product to bunkering hubs worldwide. This integrated approach is intended to establish the necessary supply chain to support the maritime industry's expected transition to low-carbon ammonia as a fuel.
